Kaisa, Sensor Design Engineer

Kaisa's path to VTI began at the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), where she studied electrical engineering, completing her Master's degree in 2000. Kaisa first encountered VTI's sensors at HUT's measurement techniques laboratory. She worked there along with her studies and for several years after graduation, until she started to crave for new challenges.

Searching for a new position, Kaisa focused on companies that she believed would have the most to offer to a professional and present the best prospects. VTI in fact had two suitable open positions - those of a sensor design engineer and a process design engineer - and after careful consideration, Kaisa chose the former.

Kaisa started her work as a sensor design engineer in spring 2004. The work has many similarities with the tasks of a researcher at the measurement techniques laboratory, the difference being certain discipline - at VTI, objectives, goals and schedules are clearly defined. Having a good idea of the applications in which the results of the work are used as well as sufficiently challenging tasks are the salt and pepper of the job.

Kaisa works in an angular motion sensor project scheduled to end by 2008. One of the best things about the job is its diversity: a regular work day includes, for example, simulation, calculation and photomask design, and as the project progresses, the tasks will change. At the moment, prototypes are being analyzed and the process developed based on the results. Kaisa is also looking forward to testing the first finished products.

Kaisa has enjoyed working at VTI - she describes the work environment as youthful and relaxed. Her colleagues are very like-minded, so it's easy to get along with them. The ability to interact well is important, as the project involves working in a team of six people. Co-operation with the nearest manager is also smooth, and the manager participates actively in the team's work.

Kaisa believes that VTI will offer her numerous improvement opportunities for years to come. Even though her plans for the future are not yet quite clear, it's certain that her future lies with VTI.
