Kenneth, Sr. Equipment Engineer

Kenneth, an equipment engineer at VTI, is responsible for eight devices, their preventive maintenance and contacts with the suppliers. He also plays a role in the development of the equipment. Kenneth joined VTI in 2001 after having worked for several years in a similar position in another company.

His job is very demanding, as VTI's equipment, originating from three continents, is unique not only in Finland, but elsewhere in the world too. There is no ready-made training for this kind of job, so know-how must be gleaned from practical work. Kenneth has also taken part in training organized by suppliers in the US and Scotland. The constant upgrading of the equipment means that continuous learning is essential, but this also keeps the job interesting. Working with suppliers is rewarding too, enabling Kenneth to maintain his language skills and get to know new cultures.

The things that Kenneth most appreciates about his work are like-minded co-workers and the modern and youthful atmosphere. The 13-strong maintenance team know one another well, and everyone is ready to lend a hand to the others at any time. When everyone knows their colleagues, it's easy to ask for advice, and help is always available. Further, training the group members in various areas of expertise ensures that there are enough stand-ins. "It's nice coming to work when you know everyone and enjoy their company," Kenneth says.

Kenneth has always been into sports, so he also appreciates the wide range of fitness activities offered by VTI. In his spare time, Kenneth goes to the gym, plays tennis, and participates in VTI's sports events, such as marathons and other running events. "The energy that goes into sports doesn't slow down your work - on the contrary," Kenneth believes.
