NEW INNOVATIONS WITH CAPACITIVE PRESSURE MEASUREMENT PRINCIPLEVTI's silicon capacitive pressure components have quickly gained a position as the reference for other pressure measurement solutions all over the world. Small component size combined with the accuracy of traditional, expensive pressure instruments has opened possibilities to develop value-add functionalities to the variety of new, innovative devices or enhanced the performance of existing applications.
Inexpensive, robust industrial reference pressure sensors and accurate, low-power slope and altitude calculation for navigation are good examples of applications where VTI's pressure components have offered significant improvement in usability and performance while keeping at the same time the system cost low. This has enriched and expanded good user experience both in navigation and sport & wellness applications. ESC sensing function integration inside an airbag ECUIn the future, the traditional ESC sensor cluster will most likely disappear and the ESC sensing functions will merge either with the airbag ECU or with the ABS ECU. Both of these alternatives have their benefits and challenges. The Airbag ECU integration offers big benefits especially in market areas where both, airbag and ESC, have 100% installation rate. The cost advantage compared to traditional cluster based approach is the removal of separate sensor cluster completely from the system, giving system cost savings. Meet VTI's new Chief Technology Officer Anssi Korhonen:Semiconductor technology in DNA- If in anything my roots are deeply in semiconductors and microelectronics, says VTI's new CTO Anssi Korhonen while describing his enthusiastic attitude towards MEMS-technology and his interest in sensors. The challenge that drives him is "to measure analogue human life and environment to be processed electronically". At the same time he keeps his feet well on the ground: - We have a great amount of engineering talent in the company already, my aim is merely to strengthen our team by bringing new ideas for achieving cost-efficiency and flexibility in our operating model, Korhonen says.
