SCA620 Series - New z-axis accelerometer family from VTI Technologies

VTI Technologies has developed a new accelerometer chip series SCA620, which is designed to measure z-axis direction - perpendicular to the assembly plane when soldered on the substrate. It is based on VTI's proven and robust silicon capacitive technology (real shock performance up to 70.000g) and a completely new design of the sensing element. The small size (11.3 x 10.5mm x 5.1mm) pre-molded dual-in-line (DIL) plastic package includes the brand new Toppi-element and custom ASIC with analog output signal (0 to 5 Volts).

The first available products in the SCA620 Series are SCA620-CF8H1A (1,2V/g) and SCA620-CF3H1A (1.33V/g) (1g = 9.82m/s2) being able to measure up to +/-1.7g and +/- 1.5g respectively. Being designed for automotive vehicle control applications, these products show reliability and excellent performance also in a harsh industrial environment. They have a zero point temperature dependence better than 1mg/°C (0.03°/°C) and high damping (-3dB @ 50Hz). More accelerometers of this product line will be available shortly. Customer specific solutions are certainly possible.

The ASIC includes an on-chip EEPROM memory with the calibration coefficients for unit interchangeability. Like VTI´s other products SCA620 includes enhanced failure detection: digitally activated self-test, calibration memory parity check and continuous connection failure detection.
